Blog- Behold Your God: A Journey into Intimacy
Bring a smile to a child this fall.
This summer I went on a short-term mission trip to Uganda. While there I had the privilege of getting to know and serve some of the children at The Lydia Rose Children's Ministry, a children's ministry in Uganda focused on serving and uplifting children in the community while teaching them about Jesus and the values of the Kingdom of God.
I was also privileged to meet the pastor and leadership team of The Fruits of Hope Foundation Uganda (FOHFU), a ministry and orphanage in Uganda for children ages 3 to 16 yrs. old. Although the team that I was with was able to supply some of the basic needs of these two ministries such as clothing, shoes, and books for the children and Bibles for some of the adults, I know that together you and I can do so much more.
Here's how you can help:
Every time you purchase any item from our online store we will donate one of these shirts to a child at FOHFU .
We will also be allocating funds from our sales to provide for the basic needs of the children at FOHFU and The Lydia Rose Children's Ministry which include clean drinking water, food, money for school fees, Bibles, baptism Shirts, and for general upkeep of their facilities and programs.
Please continue reading below for more information on these two ministries.
"Beauty From Ashes"
Ten years ago, while our family was serving the Lord in Uganda, we lost our newborn daughter Lydia Rose in a car accident. However, God brought beauty from the ashes. The Lydia Rose Children’s Ministry was established in her memory with a vision to bless the Ugandan children she would have grown up with.
What began as a simple idea to build a playground has blossomed into a full-fledged children’s ministry dedicated to nurturing the spiritual growth of local children. Through engaging activities and Christ-centered teaching, the ministry reaches out to hundreds of children, including those from diverse backgrounds, such as Muslim families.
The Lydia Rose Children's Ministry provides a safe space for kids to play, learn about salvation, engage in discipleship, and experience the love of God in community. Local Parents have testified to witnessing remarkable transformations in their children, who are beginning to embrace faith and discover the blessings of a vibrant spiritual life for themselves.
"A hungry orphan in need of rescue."
I grew up in a very hard situation. I had lost both of my parents due to a tragic accident when I was just eight years old. After that I was sent to my aunt who tried to care for me but she herself had very little. I really wanted to go to school but my aunt was not able to afford the cost to pay for my education at the time so instead I worked at home.
Things became really hard at home so I started looking for scrups (also called: scrapes of food) and I earned some money by fetching water for people in order to try to pay my school fees. I desperately wanted to obtain an education so that I could make a difference in my community.
I started going to church and one day the pastor found me looking for scrups and said, “Jackson, what are you doing?”
I explained to him about the dire situation at home with my aunt. He asked her if I could live at his residence so that I could go to school and have my basic needs met such as food, shelter and other important needs that had went unmet for a very long time.
My aunt graciously gave the pastor permission to help care for my needs and to help educate me. The pastor paid for my education from primary level education to the secondary level of my educational training. I have many reasons to thank pastor and to thank God.
As I got older, God put a dream in my heart to help the less advantaged poor children, street kids and the orphaned children. My greatest desire was that one day I could be a role model to others who were like me:
A hungry orphan in need of rescue.
This is my story. But my story is not much different from a lot of other stories you could hear in my region. There are many poor here, many orphans, many suffering children who are not having their needs met.
This is why The Fruits of Hope Foundation Uganda was birthed.
